These Cleats Are Made For Walking: Can Somebody Notice This ?!

Okay, here we are again. It’s the seventh Monday morning of the 2013 season and oh my god Jeffrey Scott Keppinger has still not walked through ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE PLATE APPEARANCES.

There are so many ridiculous things about this that are not being talked about nearly enough.

  • Each and every position player that has received at least 3plate appearances this year has at least one walk (Joey Votto has 32).
  • Keppinger’s teammate, Dayan Viciedo, was placed on the DL on April 20th. At that point, he had yet to walk this season. He returned last week and has already walked four times in his first three games back.
  • Phillies rookie pitcher Jonathan Pettibone has already walked twice in eight plate appearances.
  • In his first 125 major league plate appearances, Barry Bonds drew 20 walks as 22 year old.
  • In his final 125 major league plate appearances, Barry Bonds drew 27 walks as a 43 year old.

So yeah. Keppinger the worst. It’s kind of amazing.

There are also three young catchers that have a knack for swinging before that elusive fourth ball. Through a combined 368 plate appearances, Welington Castillo, J.P. Arencibia and Salvador Perez have walked SIX TIMES.
